Our focus is on not just guiding you out of pain, but helping you achieve and surpass your health and fitness goals.

Growing Pilates

Pilates is an exercise method designed to enhance core strength, flexibility, balance and co-ordination. Our'Growing Pilates' program adapts traditional Pilates exercises to address the specific needs and developmental stages of younger bodies.

As the skeleton grows, some muscle groups may not develop at the same rate, leading to muscles becoming tight and/or weak. Commonly underdeveloped muscles are found around the core, hips and knees. When a child engages in activities like running or jumping, insufficient stability can put added stress on joints and tendons leading to increased risk of injury such as recurrent sprains, growth plate irritation and pain.

Alternatively, with today's generation spending greater amounts of time online and gaming, children’s activity levels may be reduced with large timeframes spent sitting. This can again contribute to shortened muscles in areas such as the hip flexors and hamstrings, as well as poor posture and globally reduced strength.

‘Growing Pilates’ is designed to strengthening these weaker muscle groups through specific, individualised exercises:

1. Improved Core Strength: Pilates focuses on strengthening the core muscles—those around the abdomen, lower back, and hips. For children, this can translate into better posture, improved balance, and enhanced coordination.

2.Enhanced Flexibility: Regular Pilates practice helps to increase flexibility. For children, this can support healthy physical development and reduce the risk of injuries.

3.Better Posture: Pilates exercises encourage proper alignment and body awareness, which can contribute to better posture. Good posture is especially important for growing children, as it can prevent strain and discomfort.

4.Increased Body Awareness: Pilates develops coordination and muscle control. Children practicing Pilates learn to be more aware of their bodies, which can improve coordination and motor skills.

5.Stress Relief and Emotional Well-being: Physical activity, including Pilates, is known to reduce stress and improve mood. For children, this can mean better focus in school and more balanced emotional health.
